Market Research Survey Results

The results from this question shows that I should aim my magazine towards teenagers of 11-16, as 18 out of the 25 people who took the survey were in this age group. This will help me choose which colour, design and information I should include in my magazine so it appeals to people of this age.

The results from this question shows that my audience will mainly be aimed at females as 20 out of 25 of the people who took the survey were females. This will help me choose which colours and images I should use when I am designing my magazine, so it will attract females. There was also 5 males who took the survey so I will make my magazine attractive to males also by adding in colours like blues and yellows.

The results from this question show that the majority of people who took the survey listen to pop music, as 21 out of the 25 people who took the survey chose pop as the genre of music they like to listen to. 2 out of the 25 chose grime and rap and 7 out of the 25 chose R&B. Also 7 out of the 25 chose rap, which can link into pop music as sometimes pop artists collaborate with rap artists so pop fans may start to like rap as well. This tells me that pop is the most popular genre for my audience and this will help me think about what information to put in my magazine.

The results from this question show that 15 out of the 25 people who took the survey would be willing to pay £2-£2.50 for a magazine, 7 out of 25 people would pay £3-£3.50, 1 person would pay £1-£1.50 and 2 people would pay over £4, this helps me to see how much my audience would want to pay for a magazine and how much I should price my magazine at.

The results from this question show that Billboard magazine is the most well known magazine as 11 out of 25 people answered with Billboard. Top of the Pops was the second most popular as 8 out of the 25 people chose Top of the Pops. 5 out of 25 people chose We Love Pop magazine, 1 out of 25 chose Smash Hits magazine. No one said any other magazines which shows there is room in the market for more pop magazines. This helps me to see what magazines are most popular and well known for my audience.

The results from this question tell me that people would be attracted to a magazine if it has exclusive interviews as 9 out of the 25 people who took the survey chose this option. 7 out of 25 people said free products/posters and 5 out of 25 people said celebrity gossip. 4 out of the 25 people said that they would like their favourite artist or band on the front cover. This helps me to decide what i should include on my double page spread and front cover of my magazine and the content of my magazine, so people will want to buy my magazine. This tells me that i should include an interview in my magazine. 

The results from this question show that most of the people who took my survey are in secondary school as 14 out of 25 people chose this. 9 out of the 25 people are in college or sixth form. This helps me to see who my audience is and what my magazine should look like. This question links with question 4 as most of my audience is in secondary school and do not earn money so they do not want an expensive magazine.

The results from this question show that the people who took the survey are mainly interested in music, fashion and makeup which tells me that i should include a lot of music information and fashion and beauty sections in my magazine. I can add cover lines on the side of my magazine that relate to some people hobbies/interests which will attract them.

The results from this question show that 11 out of the 25 customers said they would want to receive discounts in the magazine. 8 out of the 25 would want makeup. This means I could put an advertisement of what the issue offers. For example, '20% off New Look' or 'Free Sleek Eye Shadow Palette'. 

The results from this question shows that the medium shot was the most popular as 10 out of the 25 people chose that. A medium shot will show most of the body but not all of it, this gives the reader a chance to see what the model will be wearing. A medium close up came in second place, 8 people suggested this. A medium shot and a medium closeup are very similar, one is just a bit closer. 

The results from this question shows that people want a natural but fun look. As my audience is quite young, the makeup should be natural as young children shouldn't be  wearing too much makeup but II should also make  the makeup fun and colourful. From the survey I can see that people think that the model should wear up to date fashion, as this is what the kids are wearing and its cool.

The results from this question shows me that people want to learn makeup tips in my magazine as 11 of the 25 people voted for makeup tips. 9 people voted for fashion tips and other people wanted music charts. I could add small sections with one makeup tip, one fashion tip and the top 40 pop charts, this will please all of ,my customers.

The results from these questions were that most people think that pink is the colour that's mostly associated with pop as 20 people said this. Purple was the second most voted colour, 12 people agreed. I then asked why they think these colours are used and most responses were because they are 'girly and bright' or they have seen these colours on other magazines before. This shows me that i should incorporate pinks and purples in my magazine.

The results from this question show that the most popular name was Non Stop Pop!. This name had 12 out of 25 votes.This tells me that this is the name my audience likes and I will use this name for my magazine.

Audience Profile 

The audience for my magazine will be for teenage girls aged 11-16 as teenage girls will be more interested in male and female pop artists. They will be interested in celebrities lifestyles and they will want to see exclusive interviews and celebrity gossip, my magazine will be able to give them this information. Their hobbies will be following celebrities on social media, seeing what they do everyday, looking at what they are wearing, their makeup and hair, they will listen to pop music in their free time. My audience will mostly be in secondary school but if they are 16 they will be in college or sixth form. The audience will be mostly girls so they will wear things that are girly and in fashion at the moment and they will wear colours like pinks and purples.

Preliminary exercise: produce the front page of  new school/college magazine, featuring a photograph of a student in medium close-up plus some appropriately laid out text and a masthead. Additionally candidates must produce a DTP mock-up of the layout of the contents page to demonstrate their grasp of the program.

Main task: the front page, contents and double page spread of a new music magazine.
